Our Multi-Sport Academy involves elements from the Active Start stage of Physical Literacy within the Framework of the Long Term Athlete Development Model (LTAD).  Your son will participate in structured and unstructured physical activities on his way to developing the ABCs of Physical Literacy which are Agility, Balance, Coordination and Speed.  With fun as our focus, your son will also catch, throw, jump, balance, run, swim, evade, bike, dribble, kick, shoot, crawl, hit, wrestle, skate, ski, race, and participate in a multitude of games.

Since many boys are now participating in U4 or U5 sports, your son will also receive a strong introduction to multiple sports, however, play is prioritized so the activities are a perceived as non-adult-facilitated by the children.

The purpose of our Sport Academy is three-fold.  First, we want to ensure your son is becoming physically literate on land, snow, ice and in water because this will contribute to his confidence, competence and motivation to be active for life in a wide variety of activities. Secondly, the Sport Academy will support the acquisition of Literacy and Numeracy since boys retain more information when they are allowed to move.  Thirdly, the Sport Academy and the physical activity associated with it, will address some of your son's physiological needs which in turn primes him for learning.

Physical literacy is defined as "the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding to value and take responsibility for engagement in physical activities for life" (The International Physical Literacy Association, May, 2014). By vouching for and utilizing methods to increase your son's physical literacy, your son will not only grow in the physical spectrums, but in his cognitive, affective, and behavioral domains as well.

The LTAD was designed in an effort to encourage and grow the motivation and competence of Canadian athletes from their youth all the way to adulthood. It consists of several stages beginning with the active start stage, and finishing with the training to win stage, hoping that along the way participants embrace sports and activity, remaining active for life.

Active Start Stage:

At this stage, emphasis is placed on the mastery of basic human movements, the introduction to various activity and developing positive habits and attitudes towards physical activity. This stage is meant for children 0-6 years-old.

FUNdamentals Stage:

The next stage of the LTAD is the FUNdamentals stage. Although our program will focus on the active start stage, we will be exploring the FUNdamentals stage as well.
